Picking a beach resort in Bali is not as easy as it may seem at first glance. Bali is a volcanic island featuring everything from white sand beaches to black sand, rocks and cliffs. The beaches on the south-east are wild: a real surf haven, but not very suitable for a relaxing swim. Calmer beaches can be found on the east and north sides of Bali. Bustling Seminyak, calm Nusa Dua, or elsewhere?

Bali Map Bali MapThe easiest way to pick a resort on the beach is by first selecting a region that matches the characteristics you are looking for! We believe the best regions for beach lovers are Seminyak (trendy town with large surf beach), Nusa Dua (calm beach with large resorts) and Uluwatu (spectacular cliffs with hidden beaches, but lots of stairs to climb).

Alternatively, you could also stay in the more affordable Kuta area if you prefer a region with lively nightlife close to the airport, or the trendy black-sand surf destination of Canggu, attracting a young crowd. The beach town of Sanur is much calmer, with a beautiful 8-km long beach walkway, and popular with slightly more elderly couples.
