Why Honeymoon in Seminyak?
Seminyak is the ideal location to begin your happily ever after. Seminyak is the fanciest and most luxurious region of Bali, with a stunning white sand beach and many luxurious hotels and resorts. We believe starting or finishing your honeymoon in Seminyak is a good choice, as it’s conveniently located close to Bali Airport. Seminyak is known for its magnificent sunset views, an excellent place for dining and shopping, and unique nightlife scene. It can be a great starting point for day trips across the island too - you may consider making it your base in Bali!
Explore Seminyak
Given many beautiful hotels with spectacular honeymoon suites, newlyweds may enjoy the best of both worlds on their honeymoon - the privacy of a private romantic holiday in Seminyak while being only a short walk away from the beach and all the action.
Seminyak is positioned on the west coast of Bali, only 30 minutes north of Bali’s airport. It’s nestled between the tourist regions of Kuta and Canggu. While Kuta caters to the young party crowd, and Canggu is taken over by hipster surfers and digital nomads, we believe Seminyak is the ideal destination for couples. Seminyak is known for its high-end hotels and restaurants, a much more beautiful beach than Canggu, and lively nightlife.
If you aren’t sure whether you want to stay in Canggu or Seminyak, don’t forget that they are only 20 minutes away by taxi. From Seminyak, it’s effortless to go to Canggu for a day or even for the night.
Seminyak’s beach clubs are a popular destination both during the day (for relaxing) and at night (to party). The most spectacular beach clubs are without a doubt W Bar, Potatohead, and Ku De Ta, all overlooking white sand beaches with a beautiful, wild ocean. They’re all located on the north side of Seminyak, in an area named Petitenget. We have reviewed a few more in our article of the Best Beach Clubs in Bali.
More south, Double Six Beach is a relaxed place with less pretentious beach bars. Our favorite is La Plancha, a colorful but down-to-earth place where couples can enjoy the Indonesian sunsets from the beach while enjoying a cocktail from a simple beanbags with your feet in the sand. A very romantic and special moment for you and your partner, do not miss sunset when in Seminyak!
There are a lot of boutique shops and art galleries in Seminyak town. Most of them are on Jalan Kayu Aya and in the Seminyak Square and Seminyak Village shopping malls. If you are looking for a larger mall with international chain stores, take a 20-minute drive to Beachwalk Mall in Kuta. For authentic and unique art by (mostly) Balinese artists, we recommend Nyoman Gallery on Jl Raya Legian.
Honeymoon Hotels in Seminyak
While Seminyak is not the cheapest region in Bali - luxury comes at a cost - if you think of splurging on a honeymoon suite in a 5-start resort, Seminyak is the place to do it. You’ll get more value for money in Bali than almost anywhere else in the world. Imagine waking up in your honeymoon suite overlooking the vast Indian Ocean!
We would recommend you to stay in a hotel right on the beach (or very close to the beach) in central Seminyak. We’ve listed some of our favorite options below. With a centrally located hotel, it will be easier to get around without relying on taxis all the time.
If you don’t like traveling from hotel to hotel, Seminyak is an excellent place to stay for your entire honeymoon. Many places are within reach for a day trip: it takes only twenty minutes from Seminyak to Canggu, and 1 hour from Seminyak to Ubud or Uluwatu.

The Legian, Seminyak
5 starSplurgeBeachfrontCentral SeminyakThe Legian is a classic luxury beachfront resort in the bustling region of Seminyak. Built in the late 1990s, this was one of the earlier high end hotels in Bali, but it doesn’t show its age. The rooms are luxurious and well furnished, inspired by Balinese crafts and design. From your room, you easily access amazing views over Seminyak’s wide beach and the Indian Ocean. The outdoor areas are big for a resort located in the middle of Seminyak. You may enjoy the three-tier outdoor pool and gardens with tropical flowers.
The Legian is the perfect choice for couples looking to have a comfortable stay while being within walking distance of boutique shops, nightlife and a wide array of dining options. If you prefer staying in, The Legian also has a good restaurant, and even offers a private dining experience!

Iljen Crater in Java (24-hour tour from Seminyak!)
ActiveNatureThrillGroup tourPickup from Canggu, Seminyak, Ubud, Uluwatu, Nusa Dua and more. The Iljen Crater is one of the most magical places we have ever visited, and a great trip for couples that love nature and hiking and are keen to explore a different island beyond Bali. The volcano is located on the east tip of Java Island (Indonesia's capital Jakarta is on that island too). Java can be reached by a 4 hour drive and 1 hour ferry from most tourist destinations in South Bali. It is the most populous island in the world with roughly 150 million inhabitants - but still it manages to offer amazing nature like this volcano!
The Iljen vocanic crater is famous for a blue fire that lights for a few hours in the middle of the night, followed by a spectacular sunrise overlooking the Java Sea and Bali a bit later. This tour will pick you up from your Bali hotel in the afternoon. You will arrive in the early evening and will be offered a room to sleep for a couple of hours (you will need that rest!). In the midst of the night you will start your ascent up to the crater's edge (this took us around 1.5 hours). If you want, you can then ascent into the crater (30 mins down and 30 mins up again) to get closer to the blue fire. This requires you wearing a gas mask that is provided by your tourguide. Later the sun will rise, revealing a spectacular landscape that was not visible during your initial ascent. After walking down again (way faster than the way up) you will enjoy a healthy Javanese breakfast before returning to Bali.

Munduk & Bedugul Day Trip from Seminyak
NatureCultureDaytripPrivate tourPick-up in your Seminyak HotelUlan Danu Temple is the first picture that shows up if you Google Bali. It might be the most iconic sight on the island, situated against Lake Beratan in the Bedugul region of Bali. But this region has more to offer than just the temple, and this PRIVATE TOUR is a great way to explore it!
The Bedugul region can easily be spotted on any map: it's where you see the 3 lakes towards the north of the island. These lakes are part of a massive volcanic crater region at high altitudes. This results in very distinct vegetation and a much cooler climate than you will find in most of Bali. A great place to escape the heath!
One stop during this tour is the Handara Gate, which is a great spot for memorable Bali Honeymoon pictures. The pretty Banyumala Twin Waterfalls are next, there is opportunity to swim at these.
Finally this tour will stop at a very romantic spot: an amazing viewpoint on the ridge of the crater from where you can see two lakes at once. We love this area a lot, and would even recommend you staying here for a few days (see our Munduk Honeymoon Guide), but this tour is also a great way to get to know the area!

Highlights include the Lempuyang Temple (also known as Gate of Heaven) in East Bali, as well as the Tirta Gangga water palace. In Central Bali, the tour will pass the Tukad Cepung Waterfall and Tegallalang rice fields, where it is possible to take pictures on while riding a spectacular "Jungle Swing". Mount Batur Sunrise Hike + Hotsprings from Seminyak
ActiveNatureDaytripGroup tourStart & Finish at your Seminyak Hotel.Hike up to Mount Batur for a spectacular sunrise with breakfast, and enjoy a well-deserved hot spring swim after your climb. An early wake-up, but well worth it!
To make it to sunrise at Mount Batur, you will be picked up at your hotel a few hours after midnight (depending on your start location). After a one-hour relatively easy climb, helped by an experienced guide and a flashlight on the helmet provided to you, you will reach the top of the volcano. On the top, a spectacular sunrise awaits you: slowly the sun will rise and reveal a spectacular landscape overlooking the Batur crater, Mount Agung, the Lombok Sea, and (on clear days) even Lombok Island and Mount Rinjani. After the climb, enjoy a well-deserved relaxation at the natural hotsprings bordering Batur Lake.

Woobar
BeachClubNightlifePetitenget, North SeminyakThe Woobar is part of W Bali, a luxury hotel with a futuristic entrance that will impress any visitor (we felt like we walked into a James Bond movie). The beach bar area features a pool inspired by Indonesian rice layered rice terraces overlooking the Petitenget beach in Seminyak with the Indian Ocean in the distance.
You can book a daybed (which fits up to 4 people) in advance via their website. This requires a minimum spend of 2 million rupia (roughly 130$) for the group as a whole. While food at the Woobar is decent, we believe the drinks are at another level. Definitely try some of their cocktails. Adventurous couples might want to give their zero-waste cocktails a try: its where Woobar aims to reduce leftover ingredients as garnishes and ingredients to create some unique drinks.

ShoppingAll around SeminyakSeminyak is the best place for boutique shopping in Bali. Just walk along the main street, Jalan Kayu Aya, and find plenty of stylish stores and chic shops. Both malls are fairly small, but there is a beautiful mall 20 minutes away in Kuta Beach (Beachwalk Mall) that offers international chain stores.

Potato Head Beachclub
BeachClubNightlifePetitenget, North SeminyakPotato Head is more than a beachclub: it is a creative village by the ocean where music, art, design, food and wellness come together. It is located in Petitenget, the area on the north side of Seminyak where many fancy beach clubs are. The beach club features an infinity pool and often has a DJ playing in the late afternoon. Many restaurants are available at Potato Head, but you can also order food right to your daybed.
While its possible to reserve a daybed at the beach club, most spots are first-come first-serve. The beach club opens at 9AM and fills up fast, so its worth showing up early. No entrance fee is charged, however in order to claim a bed at the beach club a minimum spend of 500.000 Rupia is required.
We love Potato Head because its very artistic. The facade of the main building is designed from thousands of recycled wooded windows, creating a colorful vibe. Upon entrance you will walk past the 5000 Lost Soles piece of art, a colorful arrangement of flipflops found on Bali's beaches. Couples love taking selfies between all the art that can be found at Potato Head.

KU DE TA Beachclub
BeachClubSeminyakKudeta is the Indonesian word for coup d'état, an attempt to overthrow a government. The Ku De Ta beach club in Seminyak is very peaceful however. It is one of the most well known beach clubs in Bali, right in front of Seminyak beach. A large daybed, good for 2-3 people, can be booked in advance on their website for 2.4 million rupia, a large part of which is returned in credits which you can use to order cocktails or food.
In some beach clubs, food is not so great: people will come anyway for the views. Ku De Ta is different, here the food is of excellent quality. You can have a full dinner here, including wood-fired steak, but also order small dishes to enjoy while watching the sun set into the Indian Ocean (Ku De Ta is greatly positioned to watch sunset). We recommend trying the octopus or the tuna tartar.

Explore Seminyak Nightlife
ClubNightlifeAcross central SeminyakTwo favorite party spots are La Favela and Motel Mexicola. La Favela is a beautifully decorated hotspot themed like a jungle, partially outside, with multiple floors featuring different styles of music. The venue is enormous. At the same time, Motel Mexicola is a vibrant and eccentric Mexican club that offers frequent house parties with live Latin music. This place is popular with couples, especially with those that want to give salsa or bachata a try.

Romantic Dining in Seminyak
Fine dining is where Seminyak shines. Here’s a list of our favorite romantic restaurants in Seminyak that you will love to visit on your honeymoon.
We love the following places in Seminyak!
-
★ Our Fav!
Uma Garden
Casual diningViewpointJust north of SeminyakIts hard to find a secluded peaceful spot in the busy Seminyak area. That's why we love the Uma Garden restaurant which specializes in all types of steak, from wagyu to dry-aged (check our full review here). The covered garden terrace is beautifully decorated and surrounded by greenery unique for Seminyak - making it a perfect romantic spot for a date. For those that don't like steak, they serve other grilled meals like fish, pork ribs and chicken too, as well as pastas.
When we went here we started with a delicious melted provolone cheese dish. For main we enjoyed the Wagyu Striploin (you can even pick a steak with your favorite MB score here). It is served with a sauce of choice (the chimichurri is great) and a few different types of salt. We went for a cabbage side-dish that was surprisingly good. All-in-all a great place for a date or romantic dinner!
-
★ Our Fav!
Sangsaka
Fine diningIndonesianCentral Seminyak, 5min drive inlandSangsaka is a modern Indonesian restaurant offering one of the best tasting menus we have had in Bali, as well as à la carte options. Don't get confused with their website, it does not list the tasting menu but it does exist! We have added the 7-course menu from when we visited below, but the latest online reviews indicate that the menu is now 8 courses.
What we love about Sangsaka is the cozy ambiance (it is a small restaurant), personal attention and unique Indonesian-inspired dishes with a modern twist. Our favorites were the tuna with avocado and the dragonfruit dessert with elderflower. When we were visiting most of the guests were other couples, which is understandable considering the cozy and romantic vibe. It is a bit away from the main tourist area, so if you are staying near the beach in Seminyak we would suggest taking a 5-10 minute taxi ride to get there.
Tasting Menu: roughly 50$ pp.

★ Our Fav!
Vagabondo
Casual diningCocktailsRomanticPetitenget Street, SeminyakIntimate spot serving delicious food. While passing Vagabondo, we were always intrigued by its slogan: “Not a Greek Restaurant”, and we don't regret giving the restaurant a try. It serves a modern take on Greek and Italian cuisine in the popular Petitenget area of Seminyak. A tasteful interior combining arts, exposed walls and lighting give the restaurant a romantic and intimate vibe great for a date. Make sure to check out our full review here.
-
Sa'Mesa Seminyak
Casual diningItalianPetitenget street, SeminyakThe happiest dinner experience in Bali. During your honeymoon, you probably prefer having dinner in a private most of the time. Sa'mesa is completely different. Here, you are seated at a large table with strangers who may become your friends by the end of the night!
Due to popularity, Sa'Mesa now has two branches: one in Canggu and one in Seminyak. The popularity is understandable, as this restaurant offers amazing value. An 18-meal(!) Italian home-cooked dinner experience is served. This isn't fine dining, but it is a unique tasting menu sharing experience that is worth being part of. We loved the Burrata, home-baked breads and fresh fish. To add to the experience, unlimited limoncello liquor is served for free. You can imagine the vibes by the end of the night after many shots of limoncello, it feels like one big celebration!
18-Course sharing dinner: roughly 38$ pp.
-
Mauri
Fine diningItalianPetitenget, North SeminyakMauri stands for Maurizio, the first name of the South-Italian chef Maurizio Bombini, who runs this fine dining restaurant in Seminyak inspired by flavors from his home-town region of Puglia.
At Mauri, you can enjoy a tasting menu that comes very close to a level that would be rewarded by a Michelin star if it were in Europe. The classic option is the Signature Tasting Menu, but more adventurous couples might opt for the Discovery Tasting Menu (a bit more expensive too). However don't expect typical Italian food: while the dishes are inspired by Italy, you won't easily recognize the dishes as typical Italian - they are unique and creative,
TIP: You can upgrade your steak to Wagyu at a very affordable cost. While the portion is quite small, we do believe this is worth considering to level up an already great experience to something very memorable.
Discovery Tasting Menu: roughly 60$ pp (110$ with wine pairing).
-
Seasalt
Fine diningViewpointPetitenget, North SeminyakOne of the few places in Bali where you can have a romantic meal on the beach with a beautiful ocean view is Seasalt, in the Alila Seminyak hotel. Try their "Twilight for Two" romantic tasting menu.
-
Cuca (Jimbaran)
Fine diningJimbaran, 30 min from SeminyakCuca is located a few steps away from Jimbaran Beach, just south of Bali's airport, It is roughly a 30 minute ride from either Uluwatu or Seminyak. On arrival you will walk through the large garden to reach the restaurant. We watched the sunset on the beach first before heading to dinner.
Cuca offers a Chef's Tasting Menu at great value. When we visited it consisted of 9 courses with outstanding tapas and desserts. Don't expect traditional Spanish Tapas dishes, the food is very original and based on local Balinese flavors and produce. The town of Jimbaran is known for Bali's largest fresh fish and seafood market, so expect some great seafood dishes being part of the experience, during our dinner we started with a scallop dish, had amazing butterfish and there was octopus too. We loved most dishes (weren't a great fan of the beef & bone marrow dish though).
We believe the restaurant is a great option for a honeymoon. They even offer the "ROMANCE @ CUCA" package (which you can reserve when booking a table on the website). With the romantic package your dinner will be served on a table with candles and roses. A bit cheesy but we did it (we are running a honeymoon site after all....) and it's all fun, they even had a surprise gift for us in the end!
Chef's Tasting Menu: roughly 45$ pp. Romance package roughly 15$/couple.

Hi! We have put together this guide with a lot of care, based on our own experiences. As a couple, we have lived in Bali for the past 5 years, and we fell in love with the island. We have visited every corner of Bali, especially the romantic places ;-). While our articles do contain affiliate links, you can trust us to recommend only the experiences that we love.
