Jungle Vibes, but close to Canggu!

The 5-star Suenyo Eco Retreat offers the best of both worlds: private and secluded private pool cabins in the jungle overlooking a river, while still being at a great location only 20 minutes away from Canggu. The 5 private bamboo cabins have a spectacular design and we really enjoyed the fairly priced unique Indonesian food here.

Check-in Experience

Arriving at Suenyo, you’ll drive through a local Balinese village. The boutique resort is located in a hidden river valley right next to the Pandak Gede village. but once down near the river you won’t notice there is a village nearby. At the reception desk, we were greeted with their signature drink, a refreshing purple flowery juice. We were taken down the stairs into the valley, where a Balinese priest blessed us at a small temple before we walked further down to our cabin. Staying here means climbing lots of stairs!

Location

Suenyo is located in Pandak Gede village in the Tabanan regency, roughly 20 minutes drive from Canggu. It is a good location to visit the beachfront Tanah Lot temple, which is only 10 minutes from the resort. Lately the Cemagi Beach area has become a popular spot for sunset, which can be easily accessed from Suenyo too.

Our Cabin

Each of the 5 pavilions (cabins) has a unique design with geometric shapes formed out of bamboo and other natural materials. Our doors and even bed were all circular, this really is a special design. The layout of the cabins is such that each provides a lot of privacy and has unobstructed river and jungle views. We definitely felt at home the two nights we stayed here!

Each pavilion has a private infinity pool as well as an outdoor stone bathtub. Our pool terrace also served as our private dining area. Behind our cabin we had a beautifully designed outdoor bathroom with a large shower too.

When we arrived, our minibar was filled with complimentary dried fruits, chocolate and bottles of water. Coffee and tea can also be made in the room, but for anything else, we are keen to recommend the room service!

The Food

Suenyo does not have a restaurant, which is understandable as they only have 5 pavilions. They offer private dining, which we had right next to our pool. All dishes are inspired by Indonesian food, don’t expect a lot of western options on the menu here. They gave their dishes a unique twist, and flavours are slightly adjusted to foreign taste buds.

The food menu is really good and surprisingly affordable compared to similar 5-star hotels. We had delicious canapés, excellent Indonesian duck rendang (stew) and grilled fish. Special mention for the juices on offer - we really enjoyed the Bedugul Bliss (coconut water, palm nectar and strawberries) as well as the Kaffir Lime Cooler.

Spa & special services

Suenyo offers a spa where we had a great 90 minute massage simultaneously (a couple can both get a massage at the same time). The location of the massage area is great, right next to the river. You can choose between many types of massages, we chose the muscle rejuvenation massage, which was good.

There are a few more options to make your stay even more special or romantic:

  • They offer a floating breakfast, allowing you to enjoy your breakfast while swimming in your own private pool.
  • You can book a romantic flower bath, in your private bath tub (ours was positioned right next to the river).
