Review: our visit to Uma Garden Bali in Seminyak

It is hard to find a secluded peaceful spot in the busy Seminyak area. That’s why we love the Uma Garden Bali restaurant which specializes in all types of steak, from wagyu to dry-aged. The covered garden terrace is beautifully decorated and surrounded by greenery unique for Seminyak - making it a perfect romantic spot for a date.

The Garden

We were surprised how beautiful this area is, still surrounded by rice fields despite being located quite centrally in walking distance from all the hotels in Seminyak, the most bustling part of Bali. When you enter the building you will pass the kitchen first, after which you will walk into the outdoor area, with seats in a serene covered garden surrounded by plants and trees. Beautiful lighting makes this restaurant a great romantic spot for dinner, especially for those couples that love meat.

Food & Drinks

Uma Garden features some unique signature cocktails, including our favorite Spiced Pear Mojito, with a touch of cinnamon. They have craft Kura Kura beers on tap too, which is not very common for restaurants in Bali (most just serve cans).

We started our dinner with a delicious melted provolone cheese dish. It is hard for us to judge because we believe we never tasted melted provolone cheese before, but it was honestly delicious. We had to try the homemade beef croquettes too, partly as Dirk is originally Dutch and the Dutch simply love their croquettes. We have to say they passed the taste test.

While Google Maps claims Uma Garden is a steakhouse, It is not only steak here. Uma Garden brands itself as a “fire-based kitchen” built on the philosophy of bringing people together around real food and good vibes. Their grill is wood-fired, and they serve other grilled foods like fish, pork ribs and chicken too.

Despite the alternative options, we could not resist trying out the steak here. For our main we enjoyed the Wagyu Strip loin (you can even pick a steak with your favorite MB score here). It is served with a sauce of choice (the chimichurri is great) and a few different types of salt. We went for a cabbage side-dish that was surprisingly good too.

We like flan for dessert, but so far had not found places in Bali that serve a proper one. When we noticed Uma Garden has flan on their dessert menu, we decided to give it a go. It was the best flan we have tried on the island so far, so it is worth considering! We shared one as we were quite full after all the food we experienced.

Conclusion

All-in-all a great place for a date or romantic dinner, especially as Uma Garden gives you the feeling of really escaping the sometimes hectic Seminyak area for a bit. Due to its location on the north side of Seminyak, it is actually quite close to Canggu as well, so couples that stay in Canggu might also consider a dinner at Uma Garden on days that traffic is not too bad.
